Unfortunately since our last update about Tylan, things have gotten worse.
Tylan was doing relatively okay with the meds he was taking for his pancreatitis flare, but late last week, he started going downhill.
I noticed he was getting into his litter box, digging around, and meowing mournfully. So, I began to watch him. It's very dangerous if a male cat cannot urinate, so I wanted to make sure he was able to pee. He was urinating fine. But he was constipated.
It continued over the weekend. We saw his regular vet on Monday. At this point, Tylan wasn't eating much, either. The vet took x-rays of Tylan to see if he had any fecal matter inside him, and she did blood work on him to see what, if anything else, was going on.
She came back into the room and told me that Tylan had quite a bit of poo inside him. We decided to try a medication cocktail of Miralax and Lactulose to see if we could unblock him. He did not have megacolon, so she felt this was a safe course of action to take.
She told me that if Tylan didn't poo within 48 hours, he would need an enema because it would be a medically dangerous situation for him at that point.
I watched Tylan carefully on Tuesday and Wednesday. Despite all the medications and pumpkin, he only pooped a couple of tiny pellets on Tuesday. He didn't poop at all on Wednesday.
So, I called our vet clinic as soon as they opened on Thursday to see if they could give him an enema the same day. Thankfully, they were able to squeeze Tylan in, so off we went! I dropped him off at 8:30am and he stayed at the clinic most of the day.
They let me know that they had success with the enema and he had a nice poop.
We also got his blood work results back on Thursday. Unfortunately, his kidney function is even poorer than it was a mere three weeks ago. It's rather alarming.
His regular vet isn't in again until Monday, so we probably won't have a game plan for him until then. We have already discussed putting him on a renal diet, and we are going to attempt to do so once all of these issues are cleared up with his tummy and he's actually eating better.
Since there was protein in his urine, they want to run a UPC sometime soon.
I am quite concerned about Tylan and hope we can come up with a better game plan for treating/managing his kidney disease.
Tylan has eaten some since we came home. He is pretty tired and has been resting in his bed here by me. I've been spoiling him extra tonight. He had a rough day!
I am sorry Tylan is still not doing well. I am glad the enema worked and he pooped. I know from experience during chemotherapy that constipation really does make you feel ill and you don't want to eat. It seems it is the same for poor Tylan.
