Hi everyone, it's the Mom today.
Some of you have been seeing our updates about Lita on Facebook. I've been holding off on officially asking for purrs and prayers for her because I was hoping (and praying) that she'd get better. Instead, she's gotten worse. I feel it's time to ask for the support of our amazing friends - to come together to send tons of healing purrs and prayers and love to sweet Lita so she can heal.
After our vet visit in early October (which went amazingly well!), Lita began to have more asthma attacks. Soon she was having asthma attacks nearly everyday. Then it became a daily thing. Now, she's up to several coughing spells/asthma attacks a day.
I am in very close contact with her vet. Her new vet is AMAZING. I cannot say enough good things about her!
We have tried adjusting Lita's asthma medications. Nothing has really made a dent, though.
Last week, Lita was breathing very fast on Thursday and Friday. It really scared me. So our vet had me make some more adjustments to her medication. She also told me what to watch for - signs that Lita needed to go to the hospital/ER. Thankfully, I haven't seen any of those! With the increased Prednisolone, she is breathing more normally, not so fast. That's definitely a good thing.
However, she is still having a lot of coughing.
I thought about it a lot over the weekend, and I realized that some of her symptoms are mimicking the symptoms she had when she had pneumonia in 2015 and 2016. So I wrote our vet a long email telling her my observations and asking for her thoughts moving forward.
She agrees that pneumonia is a distinct possibility here, and we have agreed that a trial treatment of amoxicillin is a reasonable course of action.
If the amoxicillin doesn't help, though, she will need chest x-rays before we do anything else. X-rays are incredibly stressful on Lita, so I am hoping and praying that the amoxicillin will work and she won't end up needing them.
We are beyond fortunate to have a vet who understands cats so well, who clearly cares about them so much, and who is so willing to work with us. I feel quite blessed to have found her.
Lita clearly doesn't feel well. She is eating a little, but not nearly as much as she usually does. We are trying to give her extra love. She seems to like it when we are near her while she rests and sleeps. She loves to curl up on my pajamas. I'm bringing her room service and letting her eat on my bed. I feel very bad for her and just want her to get well. I know that you all can relate to how much I love and care about her. <3 p="">3>
I am sorry that Lita is doing so badly, and of course you have my love and good wishes for her. I agree that a good and caring vet makes so much difference. If it wasn't for ours we would have lost Flynn nearly 3 years earlier.
ReplyDeleteI hope the amoxicillin works for her. I have you both in my thoughts.
Oh...I'm so sorry Lita is going through so much stress. It really is comforting to know you have a vet you trust, and who you can truly communicate with. Sending purrs, prayers, and love your way from the Zee/Zoey gang.
