Milita's Monday: An Update on the Mom

Hi everyone, it's Milita!

Thank you all for all the good wishes, nice thoughts, healing purrs, and hugs for the Mom's surgery.  Her surgery was last Wednesday, and me and Carmine knew something was up because the Mom was leaving the apartment even before the sun came out!  She had to leave at 5:45am so she could get to the hospital and check-in at 6:30am.  The Mom says she doesn't know why they wanted her there so early because they had her waiting in the waiting room for an HOUR before they took her back to the pre-op area.  Then it was another hour or more before they took her back to the operating room.  The Mom said she did not get scared until they said they were taking her back to the operating room, but they gave her "happy juice" before they told her that, and it kicked in fast.  The Mom says she doesn't even remember getting to the operating room, MOL!!  It sounds like the stuff the vet gave me when I had my heart ultrasound.

The Mom's surgery was fast, says her friend, and everything went well.  The surgeon told the Mom's friend that her gallbladder was FULL of yucky stones, and it is good that they got it out of there.

The Mom came home in the early afternoon, and she was VERY sleepy!  I was all ready for her, curled up on her bed.  I stayed by the Mom nearly the whole time she slept for the next few days.  Normally, I stay with her for an hour or so and then run off to do my own thing.  Carmine is usually the nurse cat here, but he has been neglecting his nursely duties!!  So, it's been up to ME to lay by the Mom and purr while she sleeps.

I am so helpful.  You know what I did the other day?  The Mom was whining about how bad her shoulder hurt (the surgeon said they put gas in her tummy for the surgery, and the gas hits a nerve that goes up to the shoulder and causes lots of pain).  I decided I better distract the Mom from her shoulder pain, so I gave her a nice kick in the tummy!  Aren't I helpful?  I figured if her tummy hurt, then she wouldn't care so much about her shoulder.

The Mom says her shoulder doesn't hurt anymore, but one of her incisions does.  She got four incisions for the surgery.  She says she also has a bumpy, itchy rash on her tummy!  She is going to call the surgeon later to see what he wants to do because she thinks that the incision that is hurting her might be infected or something.

That is what is going on here with the Mom.  Carmine and I will keep you posted.  Hopefully that orange one Carmine will start helping me with the nursely duties.  A Meezer princess gets tired, too, you know!

  1. Thanks for the update, Milita. We're glad your mom is doing better after the surgery, but we wouldn't recommend that you kick her in the tummy again. ;) We send your mom lots of purrs...

  3. Thank you for the update, Milita. We send your mom tons of purrs and wish her a good recovery. We're not sure that kicking her tummy is the best idea, though, but it was worth trying to distract her from her shoulder pain. Purrs

  6. We are so glad to hear that your mom's surgery went well, Milita. I am sorry to hear that one of her incisions is giving her issues, but at least the worst of it is over! We'll keep up those purrs and prayers! And you just keep being the purrfect nurse that you are, Milita (maybe with a one or two less kicks to the mom, though).

  19. Wow, We are late in wishing your Mom well...but hopefully by now she is feeling a lot better.

Whenevfur petcretary had 'robotic/laparoscopic' surgery (3 out of five of them...). she too would get those awful shoulder and back pains. One nurse thought she was having a heart attack...nope...just gas, MOL! Petcretary is allergic to the glue they use on those kinds of incisions, maybe that is why your Mom had a rash?
We will continue to purr for a complete recovery.
