It was a mere couple of weeks ago that I was requesting urgent purrs and prayers for my dear sweet Popsicle. On Sunday November 1, 2015, little Popsicle joined Jewel and so many of our friends at the Rainbow Bridge. He spent his final week in a foster home with the foster mom who took care of him when he was first brought to the shelter.
I fell in love with Popsicle when I saw him on Facebook 2-3 months ago when he was up for adoption with his brother Hot Dog. I stayed out of the Kitten Room at the shelter again this year though seeing as Lita had recently been diagnosed with asthma and had just gotten over a nasty bout of pneumonia.
One day, people were chasing this little orange fluff ball down the shelter hall. I was petting miss Cairo (a sweet black senior ladycat) and she started to growl. I had never heard Cairo growl before, so I was quite shocked. Turns out Popsicle was a door-runner and had gotten out of the Kitten Room again. He was lively and rambunctious and curious and so very adorable.
A mere few weeks after that, I found Popsicle in Receiving with his friend S'mores. I had never gotten to officially meet him yet, so I took little Popsicle out of his cage and held him. He was so lively and hyper that he nearly got away from me.
The next time I visited, Popsicle was not well. There was a drastic difference. He let me hold him for an hour whereas before he wouldn't let anyone hold him for even five minutes. He still seemed curious, but you could tell he felt awful. He had lost nearly all his weight, and he was so very tiny. His friend S'mores was twice as big as he was!
I made a special trip to the shelter to visit Popsicle. Something told me I should. The last time I saw him, Popsicle seemed rather sleepy. He let me hold him for another hour.
During those hours together, my connection with Popsicle grew stronger.
He was taken from us way too soon. He was only a baby at 5-6 months old. He is with Angel Jewel now, and I hope she is keeping him good company until we meet again. I'm sorry your life was so short and difficult, dear Popsicle. I love you and miss you.
Purrs for your sweet little one, gone to soon, forever loved.

ReplyDeletePoor precious little baby boy......well, you gave him some comfort and love and obviously he was needed at the Bridge - maybe to keep everyone on their paws as he ran around keeping the others at the Bridge entertained with his antics. Bless his tiny heart....and yours for bringing him some comfort as his little body failed in the end.
