Jewel's Journey

One of the many things I loved about Jewel was that she never scratched the furniture!  She really loved her scratching posts.

I credit this to her former owner who "taught" her to use her scratching post from the time she was young.  He would give her a treat every time she used her scratching post, and we all know how much she loved her treats!

By the time I met her, she started training us, as cats tend to do.  Jewel would go and tap her scratching post and expect a treat, and most of the time she ended up getting one.  Then she began to just sit by her post and demand a treat.

So we started to put her treats on top of the post so she'd have to reach up and get them, using the post in the process.  The way she trained us sure was cute, though!

    Our family is all pretty good about scratching and that is because Dad has lots of places for us to sharpen our nails and leave our scent. Jewel really was a smart kitty.
