Jewel's Journey

You're probably wondering why Jewel's post has a photo of Carmine in it.  Well, here's the story.

I had to give Jewel subcutaneous fluids every other day (sometimes everyday if she got dehydrated).  I hung her fluid bag from my pantry door handle because it had to be higher than Jewel but very very close to my eye so I could see the fluid level.  I'd put Jewel on the floor in front of me and pet her and tell her what a good kitty she was before administering the fluids.

One day, I noticed how chilly the floor had gotten as we moved into fall and winter and decided that probably wasn't very comfortable for my little girl.  So when I was at Cat Care, I stopped in at Barney's Mart (errr....Meow Mart) and got Jewel this owl pad.  The pads come in all kinds of fabric, but I chose this one because it has owls all over it.  Owls remind me of my little Jewel because she had those big owl-like eyes.  I thought this was perfect for her.

From then on, I put Jewel on this pad whenever it was fluids time so she was more comfortable.  I think she liked it better than the bare floor.

And, as you can see, Carmine enjoyed laying on the pad when it wasn't being used by Jewel.  I've since put it in a safe place to keep as a keepsake of my baby.
