Many of you already know about Jewel's test results and have given hugs, prayers, purrs, love, etc. I appreciate all the support more than I can ever express.
I wanted to let the rest of you know about Jewel's test results, though since I know some of you don't connect with us via Facebook.
I had a chat with the vet on Wednesday morning, and she informed me that Jewel is in advanced kidney disease now. Jewel's creatinine was 2.9 (she was on fluids daily at this point) and her urine specific gravity was 10:14. Apparently, it's supposed to be above 10:50. Jewel's urine specific gravity had been holding at 10:20 for a long time, but it's worse now.
Our vet recommended backing off on the fluids again - to give them to her every other day. I'm not really sure why, though.
I've been trying to process this information the past couple of days. I'm just really sad, heartbroken. I hope that she has a lot of time left with me. I love her so very much.
I've posted on Facebook already, but wanted to leave a comment of support here. Every day you have with her is a gift, and I know you will treasure it. Spoil her rotten and take it one day at a time.
ReplyDeleteWe appreciate the update, as we don't do FB.
ReplyDeleteDitto Rene: Just take it one day at a time and yes, spoil her for however long she has with you.
Sending purrs and universal Light to you both.
Thank you for the update, we know you are doing everything you can to help lovely Jewel. It's ok to ring the vet and ask them to explain pulling back on the fluids, most vets are happy to explain again as they know that it's hard to take everything in when you are so concerned about the kitty you love.
ReplyDeleteSending lots of love and purrs for you and Jewell

We're so sorry to hear that Jewel's test results are not good. It's best to go one day at a time and cherish every moment spent together.
ReplyDeleteWe are sending love and purrs to you all. Take care.

Oh dear, we are so sorry to hear this news. We had a kitty with kidney disease and the fluids helped so much. He might want her system to settle down a bit before giving them to her again. He must have a reason. Jewel and you will be in our thought and prayers, and I'm purring like crazy.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the reduction in fluids is because her little kidneys have a hard time 'processing' it.
ReplyDeleteSpoil her. Tell her you love her lots and lots of times a day. Cuddle with her. Enjoy the times you can share as a special bond.
Our prayers are with you, and my purrs.

ReplyDeleteI have been sending lots of purrs to Jewel, and to you, ever since I saw the news on Facebook. It's so hard having to cope with this. :-(
ReplyDeleteWell, I spoke too soon yesterday I suppose. Just cherish everyday with her! I know the feeling as Nibblet is very poorly right now.

I so feel for you as I too went through this with my beloved Jasper. With a great set of vets and the right level of medication we got much longer with him than we thought. I keep you in my thoughts and hope you get lots of quality time with your sweet Jewel. Enjoy every precious moment.
ReplyDeleteJewel kittie, hang in there, for as long as you feel you can. Purrrrrsss
ReplyDeleteI am sorry the test results were not good and send purrs to you and Jewel.
ReplyDeleteWe're so sorry that her illness is progressing. This is difficult stuff. It's difficult for you, too. Everycat is right, don't be afraid to call the vet back and ask for details if you have questions about why you would change the frequency of fluids. You are overwhelmed, and it is totally understandable that you didn't think of all of your questions when you were at the office.
ReplyDeleteWe're sorry Jewel's CRF is getting worse. We know you're doing what's best for her. Purrs...
ReplyDelete(((hugs)))) Jewel is blessed to have you as her Mama. Someone had suggested the support group online which I think is a great idea, you may also get some suggestions from those who have been through this. I think with the kidneys it is a balancing act, while kidneys need water, when there is kidney disease too much can be a bad thing, which is probably why the vet is cutting back.
ReplyDeleteWe are so very sorry to hear this news. Jewel and your family will be in our thoughts, prayers, and purrs. Sending lots of hugs your way.
ReplyDeleteWe are so very sorry. Healing purrs for Jewel and comforting purrs for you both.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the update..
ReplyDeletewe continue our purrs and prayers.
