Worried

I'm scared and worried about Jewel.

Yesterday, she didn't eat much.  I hope she just didn't like that flavor.

Tonight, she threw up a couple of times.

I know I shouldn't let every little change scare me, but it does, and my intuition says it should.

I don't want her to cross the Bridge.  I never want her to cross the Bridge.  I know that's not possible, but I wish it were.

  2. I guess they have done all kinds of blood work on her. Try feeding her some canned chicken and if that works mix her other food in with the canned chicken. Hope she starts eating soon.

  3. We're sorry Jewel doesn't seem to be feeling well. Sometimes when we have problems with throwing up, the mom gives us 1/4 of a regular strength pepcid (10mg size) once a day. The vet said this was okay, but you may want to check with your vet if you decide to try it with Jewel.

We continue to purr for her.

  4. We're so sorry Jewel isn't feeling well. The Island Cats are right, regular pepcid can sometimes help a lot. There's a generic (famotidine) that doesn't cost much, too. Ask your vet to be sure of the dose.

When it comes to it, sometimes the appetite of a CRF cat is so fussy that getting them to eat *anything* is better than nothing. With Angel Cyrano, we had some success when he was especially uninterested in regular food with baby meat sticks (make sure they don't have onion or garlic powder in the ingredients, since that can change over time). He would eat hand-fed bits of the Gerber Graduates ones from the baby food aisle at the grocery store. It's not really what cats should eat long term, but some food is better than nothing.

We'll keep purring for Jewel, and for you, because we know how stressful this is on you.

  5. We're purring for Jewel. We agree about the pepcid. All of our CRF kitties took pepcid or some form of it.

  8. hugs! We hope it was just the flavor and that she eats something else today!
Have you tried Liqui-Tinic? Love and Hisses is using it to stimulate the appetite of their old kitty who had stopped wanting to eat. Last I heard it was working pretty well.

You asked what the coconut oil was for on my blog. Star licked all the fur off a big spot on her back. It wasn't an abscess or anything like that, but an allergy spot she wouldn't leave alone. The vet told us to put it on her back and see if she'd eat some too. She seems to love it.

  11. Aww poor Jewel... sorry you have to worry about her, but it's good to be aware of what's going on even if it's not good things. I am still thinking of her, and hope she feels better soon. You are doing a great job taking care of her.
