Everyone's purrs and prayers must be starting to work!
Jewel went to the vet today to get her blood pressure checked and to get a urinalysis. According to Jewel's dad, her blood pressure is high, and the vet gave her a blood pressure medication to try. She wants to see Jewel after we finish the first bottle.
We've decided Jewel will spend more time here because the kitten at her daddy's house might not be helping her blood pressure (the kitten likes to follow Jewel around and poke at her).
This is the first time she's gone to the vet and NOT lost weight. She gained a half an ounce. Yay! I figured out that she will eat Fancy Feast and Pro Plan. She needs to gain about another pound before I start to breathe easier, though.
The vet also gave Jewel more medicine for her diarrhea. The stuff smells AWFUL; I cannot even imagine how it must taste!! Jewel spits most of it out, so I don't know how I'm going to get it in her yet. I thought maybe try to mix it with a little tuna juice?
Please be sure to check out our interview with PAWS over at Carmine's Orange Pages!
Poor Jewel! Maybe she would take her meds if they were crushed up and put in some Gerber meat baby food ... mine will eat anything if it's in baby food. Hope she's better soon.

Aaah Jewel! It looks like spending more time with Sierra and less time having a kitten whapping your bum is just the ticket to help you feel better. The medicine will help too, so please try not to spit all of it out. Though we would, and we would hold out for tuna juice too hehe

I've stopped by to add my purrs... please be well, sweet girl!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that there is good news about Jewel! I think I have had that awful diarrhea medicine and yes, it is putrid! It made me foam at the mouth.
ReplyDeletePoor Jewel. High blood pressure is tough, and the meds aren't cheap. We hope that spending time with you will help her blood pressure and allow her to have a better time.

ReplyDeleteWe are all sending our best purrs to sweet Jewel and we hope that blood pressure gets under control!
ReplyDeleteIf purrs are helping, then more purrs you shall have, precious Jewel!
ReplyDeleteHarrrrrrrrrry, Dexterrrrrrr and Tipp (rrrrrr)
so happy that you found something that she will eat and that she is doing somewhat better. Great news!
ReplyDeleteWe continue purr for Jewel. We hope the medicines help her and that she continues to eat her foods.
ReplyDeleteYay Jewel! Glad she's feeling a little better. If the medicine smells that horrible, mixing it with food may not help. We used to have some medicines for cats compounded at a pharmacy to taste good with flavors like triple fish. It's more expensive though.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear Jewel if improving a tad. I'll continue to purr for her to get all better.
ReplyDeleteSo glad she gained a little bit! Hope the new pills help. We'll keep purring!
ReplyDeleteGlad Jewel is doing better. Hope you can get the evil tasting stuff in her so it can help her.
ReplyDeletehello I came to say pleased to meet you and thank you for visiting. I added you so will pop across again. Glad Jewel is doing ok.. Hugs GJ xx
ReplyDeleteOh that is good news that Jewel is a tiny bit better. We sure hope the new medicine works for you. It is hard to get the medicine into the cat. Still sending tons of purrs.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work eating, Jewl. We are sorry you have to take BP medication - was there any chance yourBP was elevated due to stress being at the vet's? Mom's sister's cat had some bp issues, but they would usually keep her there all day and measure it several times to get a good reading, since it was usually very high when she first got there.
ReplyDeleteWe are so pleased to hear that Jewel is a little better - we will send a double helping of purrs to see if that helps her to get better more quickly.
ReplyDeleteLuv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
Jewel, get all better darling and eat eat eat. We will have a play date then if you want to.
ReplyDeleteAwwww lovely Jewel!! Yes, tuna juice with meds is a good thing! Aww we hope Jewel gets better soon!
ReplyDeleteTake care
